storm at the sea

Storm at the Sea – by Deniz Pire – is a video work that explores the invisible nature of wind and its effects on the environment. The visible effects of wind, moving objects in its path, invite the viewer into an experience that plays with time and space. The work transforms the invisible into the visible, inviting the viewer to sense the presence of a force that cannot be directly seen.

In this video piece, the dynamics of a storm at sea are revealed through the direction and movement of the wind. A plastic sheet, manipulated by the wind, moves across the surface of the video, offering the viewer an abstract representation of nature’s power and the chaotic energy of the storm. The sheet, through its movement, symbolizes the passage of time and reflects the transformation of space. As the wind shapes the sheet, it creates a second layer in the video, drawing the viewer into a visual abstraction.

The work abstracts the effects of wind, showing how natural forces leave their mark in time and space. Wind is represented as both an invisible force and a catalyst for change, transformation, and instability. Wind here is a “hidden power” that disrupts the rigid order of compositions and demands dynamic attention. This effect invites the viewer not only to observe a fixed image but to experience and feel the presence of wind and its changes in real-time.

Storm at the Sea presents the transient and permanent effects of time and nature, offering an abstract depiction of the dynamic movements and turbulence within a storm. The impact of the wind guides the viewer beyond the confines of space, encouraging a deeper engagement with the transformations that occur over time.
